| On december 12, Wushu Society Bao Trieu / Blijd organised its Championships Wushu/Kung Fu for Youth & Juniors for the eighth time, in Sports Hall Vinkhuizen in Groningen, The Netherlands. About 70 participants, from 8 different Wushu schools, anxiously awaited the tournament. Programm The youth demoteam of Bao Trieu opened the tournament with a beautiful lion dance (by Irem and Fadime), accompanied by live music on drums and gongs (by Christiaan, Machlon, Ruben and Revi). Then the juniors (14-17 yr) presented an elaborated dragon dance: 6 boys making the dragon come alive, accompanied by 3 girls on drums, cymbals and gong. After the lion dance the various schools presented themselves to the public (of over 200 people). Then -like last year- a special demonstration took place: the participants of Bao Trieu's course in "Martial Arts for Youth with a Limitation" gave a beautiful performance of various techniques they practiced during the course. This year they especially showed how they train and fight with the blocker. Then the tournament started. First the categories 'Synchronous Forms' --in which groups of 4 to 6 participants simultaneously demonstrated identical forms-- and 'Duiling' --in which couples showed a staged fight. One of the duiling fights was performed by even 3 boys. After that everyone was by him/herself, and the participants demonstrated their forms in various categories: simulated fights, unarmed or using a variety of weapons, traditional (more fight oriented) or modern (more acrobatic). After a short break, in the afternoon the tournament continued with Sanda, Chinese full contact fights in which throwing techniques play an important role. After the Sanda, the semi-contact fights took place in several length categories. |
