In the rehabilitation center the real rehabilitation now started, the big battle. This was after he had surprised his doctors in hospital by starting to walk there already. Here, in Beatrixoord, he started learning everything again, with the help of physiotherapists, logopaedists, ergotherapists, and rehabilitation specialists. He had to teach himself and be taught everything again: talking, moving, writing. In Beatrixoord he could also enjoy some rest. The many people eager to visit him were admitted only very sparingly. Dutch TV watchers were able to follow his rehabilitation process via channel SBS-6's program 'Fatal Moment'.

On the April 20th the time was there: Within a year of the accident after which doctors had been fearing for his life, he was active in an international budo gala. It was on the 10th Budo-Meeting in Z�rich that he, escorted by his budo friends Henk Meijer, Jean Frenette and Li Yanlong, was performing his famous SLOW MOTION again - an almost impossible feat after such severe brain damage.
